The work considers the interrelation of the institution of compensation for moral harm and the problem of protection of non-property values of a citizen on the basis of current legislation and juridical practice. Under current Russian legislation compensation for moral harm is a leading form of protection of personal non-material values. Art. 151 according to which a citizen has a right to compensation for moral harm caused by actions violating his personal non-property rights and infringing his other non-material values is included in Chapter 8 of the Civil Code. Accordingly, proper understanding of the specific character and the diversity of non-property values that a person has or is entitled to have is crucial to a successful realization of the right to compensation for moral harm.
