Language: RussianThis monograph studies the language of the descendants of the Semeisky Old Believers, who were expelled from their motherland, and who since the 18th century have been surrounded by other dialects in the remote areas of Transbaikalia. The author describes their language from various points of view: phonetic, grammatical, lexical. The study is based on materials collected during dialectological field expeditions (1978-98) by scholars from the Institute of Philology (Novosibirsk) and Buryat University (Ulan-Ude) in 64 settlements of speakers of the Semeisky dialect. Iumsunova shows the genetic ties of the Semeisky dialect with dialects of Western Old Believers. Bibliography.
