This is a biography of zoologist and traveler Aleksandr Fedorovich Middendorf (Alexander Theodor von Middendorff, 1815-1884). He was born to a German family settled in Russia. His expedition to Siberia was the first one which reached the peninsula Taimyr and the Amur region and started their scientific exploration.
