This is the first detailed biography of the legendary Russian noble woman, daughter of a hero of the Russian Napoleonic war General Raevskii and the wife of decembrist Sergei Volkonskii. Mariia Volkonskaia (1805-1863) was extraordinary woman herself, and her image was reproduced in numerous poems, prose works and memoirs. One of the most important events in her life was a meeting with Aleksandr Pushkin and their life long secret love.
