On May 13th, 1917, the Bolshevik Lunacharskii and the Menshevik Martov left their exile in Switzerland and set out for Petrograd through Germany. Lunacharskii left his wife Anna Lunacharskaia (Bogdanova, 1884-1959), Martov his girlfriend Nadezhda Kristi (1888-1920), who happened to live in the same house at Lake Leman. Both of men were dissidents within their parties. This is the first full length academic publication of their letters. They throw a new light on the failure of the two factions to find a compromise in the course of the Bolshevik revolution in 1917. Summary in German and English. Name index.
