Many of NKVD-NKGB organizations provided local and central defense committees in Russia during WWII with information on issues of critical importance: number and list of evacuated industries and population from the front areas; organization of military production in the new locations; life of population in rare; fight with criminals and saboteurs, aid to orphans, etc. This monograph studies such activity on the example of one Defense Committee in the region of Nizhnee Povolzh`e and shows the contribution of the secret services in the victory.
