This book by American philologist James M. Curtis is the first academic biography of outstanding literary historian Boris Eikhenbaum (Eichenbaum, 1886-1959) who, along with two friends Iurii Tynianov and Viktor Shklovskii, was a leader of the literary movement OPOIaZ, a society for studying poetic language, and a founder of the literary movement called formalism. The author creates a portrait of three generations of the Eikhenbaum family, his circle of friends and colleagues. Appendices include letters of B. Eikhenbaum to V. Shklovskii.
