Naum Korzhavin (Mandel`, b. 1925) started to publish his poetry in 1941. His arrest in 1947 sped up his development as a personality and a poet. He was forced to emigrate in 1973. He is the author of several books of poetry and many articles about literature. This collection of his articles is about his evolution as a personality and a poet and could be named after the longest essay in this book: On Eternal Biography. The poet writes about his generation and the ideas they believe in and were inspired by, about the best Russian poets of several generations. Korzhavin is not afraid to challenge common opinion or authorities: his less than complimentary article about the poet Joseph Brodsky, included in this book, raised a sharp disagreement in Russian press.
