This is a memoir of Galina Dzhugashvili-Stalin who is a daughter of Jacob Dzhugashvili, Stalin’s eldest son. According to the official story, Jacob fought as a pilot and was captured by the Germans. The wife of the German General Paulius asked Stalin to exchange her husband for Jacob, and Stalin made his famous reply that he does not trade a fieldmarshal for a soldier. In his commentary (pp. 301-348) to this incident the historian V. Zhiliaev refutes this story. According to Zhiliaev Stalin never said it and Jacob Dzhugashvili was never captured.
