The first contains some theory and exercises on collecting dialectical words to be used in student summer field work. The second part includes materials for independent student work both in field expeditions and in class. This teaching aid aims to introduce students to the history of dialectology as a philological discipline and to the major scholarly works in this area, as well as to give them the skills necessary to collect living folk dialects. It also includes three questionnaires on spiritual life and folklore traditions of the Russian North.
